Why participate in a clinical trial?

Researchers conduct clinical trials to try to learn if an experimental new treatment works and is safe in humans in order for it to be approved for use. The experimental new treatment could be a new drug or new use of a drug, a medical device, or a medical procedure.

There are 4 main reasons why people participate in clinical trials:

  1. Help discover new treatments
  2. Enhance our current medical knowledge, helping future patients
  3. Potential access to experimental treatments with close monitoring
  4. Take an active role in one’s healthcare
